The cover of the book is quiet beautiful and I think many of us would buy the book just because of the beautiful cover. But besides that, there is an interesting story included which makes the book worth to buy, too.
The plot starts very surprising: We are thrown in a situation of Sophronia's not ladylike behavior. The situation starts out of the blue and it intrigued me. So I read on. Then, very soon, Sophronia is sent to an Academy, where she should learn how to behave like a lady. But already on the way there, it comes to a problem: She is chased by dangerous flywaymen and can only escape through her unladylike behavior. So she does a very risky maneuver and is able to arrive safely at the Academy. This was a whole new aspect that I didn't think would come up. The whole book was full of these risky, action-packed scenes. I expected something more calm and more like a normal school daily life but there was so much more than that. Sophronia starts to look for a mysterious prototype which makes a lot of problems and which ends in a lot of situations full of suspense and action.
Nevertheless, the students at the Academy learn in lessons all the etiquette to be a lady but also things about espionage and how to do it. It was how I expected it to be. It was very interesting and smooth to read. I liked these parts very much and there was sometimes even a little bit of humor.
Another interesting aspect is, that in this world where the story takes place, there are creatures like vampires and werewolves. I didn't think this aspect would come up, neither. But the girls learn at the Academy how to fight against these creatures and they even get to know such creatures. It was really interesting and I liked it very much. Furthermore, the setting seems to be more medieval. But the people already have things like robots and stuff which made me very confused. But in the end, it added a lot to the story and made most things seem more dangerous and interesting.
By the way, the characters have a great sense of humor and they all are unique and beautiful. They had such unique characteristics and were so well described through just a few sentences. There is Dimity, who is a really girly character who likes fashion, but there is also Sidheag, who is more like a boy-ish character in the whole story. But most importantly: Monique, who is more like a bitch than anything else. They just were the typical school characters out of every school story - but transferred in an untypical story. It was just perfect, I could imagine all of them and it was so amazing how they all really came to life in my head. They had a humorous way of speaking but Sophronia was the best of them. She was so optimistic and had such great ideas and thoughts. I really liked to experience the Academy and all the thrilling trappings.
The only criticism I have is that some ideas or scenes were outrageous. It wasn't always that realistic to be honest and in the beginning I thought that it was even a little bit ridiculous how a fourteen-year-old girl could manage to save herself and her friends out of the hands of dangerous men. It was a little bit unrealistic and I first thought I wouldn't like the novel that much. But after a few more of these events it was just thrilling and I wanted to read more and more and more.
I have also to mention, that I had a few problems with the English at first. At the beginning I had problems to adjust myself to the words but after a few chapters that changed and it started to work out for me.
I really liked the story. It could surprise me by a lot of new aspects and story twists and was very thilling to read. And the character - especially Sophronia herself - were just absolutely lovely!
